Since February 2024, TfL have introduced the Update Service as a mandatory requirement for both new and existing PCO and private hire drivers. The DBS update service is a government- run yearly subscription system designed to ensure the DBS certificate for PCO and private hire drivers is valid and up-to-date.
By registering to the update service and paying a yearly fee, PCO and private hire driver will not need to apply for a new DBS when renewing as this enables to maintain their existing DBS certificate. Furthermore, this makes it easier for PCO and private hire drivers who undergo constant background checks.
Key points:
- Yearly subscription to certify the DBS certificate valid and active.
- Allowing TfL or Licensing bodies to verify the certificate status online quickly with ease instead of waiting for copy of certificate.
- The update service helps make things easier the PCO and private hire drivers with renewal process.
