CRB (DBS)

CRB Introduction

TFL needs to be sure that you are safe, honest and trustworthy, and that you are the type of person who they want as private hire drivers. This CRB (DBS) check will help them make their decisions and decide whether you are eligible for the PCO Licence based on this information. Payment of £56.85 is to be made at the post office after we create all necessary paperwork. Once paid, we will receive all necessary information from ‘online DBS disclosures’ to complete your application and send it to TFL for processing. It is important to notify us of any serious criminal convictions before we carry out the CRB check to avoid wasted fees as we are not responsible for reimbursement after the checks are carried out

What if I have a Criminal Record?

Just because you may have a criminal record does not mean you cant apply for a PCO licence, however each application is based on a case by case basis depending on the conviction. (See TFL Criteria on the left)

What if I have an existing CRB?

A new CRB is necessary as TFL now require a CRB relevant to Private Taxi Licencing. If you already hold a CRB specifically relevant to private hire this may be used if it is no longer than 3 months old.

TFL Criteria

TFL uses the following criteria to decide upon a judgement for a licence:

  • The individuals personal circumstances.
  • The exact nature of the offence and how serious it was.
  • How long ago the offence was.
  • If the offence was just driving related or was it a specific conviction.
  • How many convictions you have had.
  • If a sentence was imposed by the court and who was affected in the offence.

Note: Sexual and violent offences will more than definitely lead to a rejection in obtaining a licence. Drink-driving related offences are not a total rule out but are assessed on a case by case basis, for any further information please don’t hesitate to call us for a more detailed explanation.
