What is PCO Licence?

PCO stands for the Public Carriage Operator. The Department of Transport for London (TfL) are responsible for awarding private-hire licenses to mini cab drivers in London. The PCO license is crucial as you cannot legally work or be hired without one and you can face a huge fine if you work without a badge. Each badge lasts for three years and at the end of the three years the badge can be renewed. The PCO license allows individuals to work for any private hire companies such as Uber, Addison Lee and mini-cab offices. The badge is also required for any private chauffeuring work which involves carrying passengers.

What is PCO Licence?

PCO LICENCE APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS:

You must be at least 21 years of age at the time of applying. There is no upper age limit, as long as you meet the other licensing requirements.
You must hold a full DVLA, Northern Ireland, or other EEA state driving license that’s three years or older.
You must have the right to live and work in the UK
You must be of good character. To establish this you will be required to undertake an ‘enhanced’ criminal records check from DBS through our service provider – GBGroup
You must be medically fit which means meeting the DVLA Group 2 standards. In most cases, this will mean that you will have to undergo a medical examination with someone who has access to your full medical history
You will need to undertake a topographical skills assessment from an accredited assessment center

PCO LICENCE APPLICANT CHECKLIST:

DVLA or EU driving license (3 years or older)
Bank statement or utility bill (no older than 3 months)
Passport or EU id Card
Valid visa residency status/biometric card (if required)
Glasses prescription (if necessary)
National Insurance number.

PCO LICENCE STEPS....

Step 1

Come and See us on a Thursday Evening !

Book an appointment to come and visit us in our office in Ilford to begin your Pco Licence.

Step 2

Topographical Training

Complete around 2 hours of Topographical training. We will show you the format and outline of the test and exactly how to answer each question.

Step 3

Medical Check

Our in house GP will complete your TPH 204 medical form. Our doctor will check your medical history and ensure your fit to drive.

Step 4

Documentation and Application Submission

At the end of the session, you will sit with one of our Pco Licence specialists who will complete all of the necessary paperwork and CRB checks. We will advise on the next steps and help submit everything to TFL !

Step 5

Complete your Topographical Test

After around 7-8 weeks from filing your application, TFL will invite you down to their office to complete the Topographical skills test. You will have 2 hours to complete the test !

Step 6

Receive your Licence and start Working !

After you have successfully passed your Topographical test, TFL will issue your Pco Licence. Once you have your badge you can start working straight away !
